Every car on the lot has its key hanging on the board
Floripa Veículos buys and sells second-hand cars, pickups and utility vehicles in Ingleses do Rio Vermelho, a beach district on the north side of Florianópolis, Brazil. Walk in and you find a wall of hooks: on each one, the key to a vehicle and a cardboard tag written by hand.
This page is laid out the same way. Each tag below covers one thing the company does, with no prices, no deadlines and no promise too big to fit on a scrap of cardboard.
The hook board
Four hooks, four tags. Each one comes straight from the activities on the company's federal registration.

HOOK 1
Buying a used one
Passenger cars, pickups and utility vehicles that have already had an owner sit on the lot, ready for a new driver.
Before anything is signed, a buyer can look it over, ask questions and, if they like, take it to a mechanic they trust.
-
HOOK 2
Leaving yours on consignment
Owners who would rather not sell on their own can park the car here on consignment and keep the title in their name until a buyer turns up.
The terms of each arrangement are agreed in writing, one car at a time.
-
HOOK 3
Representing and brokering
The company also works as an agent and representative in the vehicle trade, putting someone with a car in touch with someone looking for one.
It can broker other deals and services as well, as long as no real estate is involved.

HOOK 4
How a car gets valued
When a vehicle comes in to be sold or traded, it is gone over together with its owner: overall condition, paperwork and whatever history they can share.
The figure comes out of that talk, never from a printed chart taped to the wall.
Before you take a key down
Picking a pre-owned car means choosing between vehicles that already carry a past. That is why the talk comes first: what the car will be used for, how many kilometres a month it should handle, whether the trunk has to swallow a surfboard, a child seat or a toolbox.
Once those answers are in, the lot shrinks and the choice gets easier. People who only drop by to browse are welcome too, and nobody drives off with a contract signed on a whim.
Consignment runs the other way round: the owner brings the car, tells what they know about it, and together they settle how it will be shown and what happens once a buyer appears.
